Statistical hypothesis testing
Binomial and Poisson tests
Assume nothing has changed (), then ask how surprising your observation would be. If the probability of a result at least that extreme is below the significance level, the evidence says something has changed.
≈ 40 minTests for a population mean
Has the average changed? Assume it hasn't, work out how many standard errors the sample mean is from the claimed mean, and compare that with the critical value for your significance level.
≈ 40 minType I and Type II errors
Every test can go wrong in two ways: crying wolf (rejecting a true , Type I) or missing the wolf (keeping a false , Type II). Their probabilities come straight from the critical region.
